Overview

Grisen i säcken (The Pig in the Sack) is one of GAS's most popular productions. It is divided into three acts: the dance band opera Grisen i säcken, the rural play Värmlänningarna kommer tillbaka (The People of Värmland Return), and finally Doktor Haka's rekordrevy (a revue).

A new career opens for Charley Moon when, during his army service, he is detailed to appear in a unit concert. In doing so, he becomes friendly with Harold Armytage, a peacetime actor of the old school. Hearing that Charley has no job to go to when demobilized, Armytage suggests they team up as stage comics. Things are not easy; jobs are few and far between, and when they can be found they are in the tattiest of theatres, but Charley gains the experience he needs. They then decide to try their luck in London.

Following a quarrel with Célestin, Corinne walks out and instead, Denise appears in her role, taking the name Mam'zelle Nitouche. Denise falls in love with Fernand, a handsome young soldier. Both Denise and Célestin are mistaken for soldiers absent without leave and shipped off to an army camp. A series of coincidences brings happiness to all concerned.

In addition to appearing on stage themselves, Peter Lund Madsen and Anders Lund Madsen have written the lyrics for Enden er nær (The End is Near), and they are accompanied by Strygerkvartet i guld, the international mime troupe Das Fleischkvartet des Bielefelds, and Denmark's best singers, Martin Ullits Dahl and Billie Koppel. Maria Vinterberg directed, and the set design is by Marianne Nilsson. The music was composed by Teitur and Bent Fabricius-Bjerre.
