Overview

The story unfolds in the turbulent period in the history of Japan, where two imperial courts exist. Kusunoki Masatsura, a warlord of the Southern Court, knows the court is approaching its downfall while spending his days fighting against the Northern Court along with his younger brothers: Masatoki and Masanori. Along the way Masatsura meets Ben no Naishi and the two fall in love. The full-blown cherry blossom season arrives, and with a decisive battle looming Masatsura wonders what he is fighting for. Amidst a storm of cherry blossoms, Masatsura follows the path he has chosen… "Dream Chaser" is one who chases their dreams. A passionate theme of single-minded dream chasing, wrapped up in the dreams created by Tamaki Ryou of Moon Troupe.

Set against the background of the Spanish Civil War, the plot centers on socialist playwright Katherine McGregor and renowned photographer Georges Malraux, a Polish Jew who fled his homeland for Paris. The two first meet in Hollywood at a party announcing the film adaptation of Katherine's play Tempest in Spain, based on the opera Carmen. The two are reunited in Barcelona, where they unexpectedly find themselves falling in love as they become embroiled in a battle against fascism.

In the world of the Warring States, where rival warlords vied to take over all of Japan, a uniquely ingenious strategist made a name for himself: Takenaka Shigeharu (nicknamed Hanbei). Hanbei’s former opponent, Oda Nobunaga, recognized his genius. When Kinoshita Tokichiro (later Toyotomi Hideyoshi) visited under Oda’s orders, Hanbei realized that he had the potential to dominate Japan—he then became his vassal and led Hideyoshi to victory in many battles. Ironically, Andrea and Maddalena will be joined together by a thing called love. Idealism, which has been pushed to the forefront of reality, is toying with Gérard's life. Before long, a raging torrent that provides an omen of the tragedy to come will overwhelm all three of them.

In 1770, Princess Marie-Antoinette of the House of Hapsburg, youngest daughter of Empress Maria Theresa of Austria, marries at the age of fourteen, Prince Louis (future Louis XVI) of the House of Bourbon, eldest grandson of King Louis XV of France. In anxiety over some childishness still lingering in Marie-Antoinette, Empress Maria Theresa sends over to France her confidant, Count of Mercy-Argenteau, on the mission to tutor Marie-Antoinette to grow up to be a beloved queen of the French people.
