Len Lye scraped together enough funding and borrowed equipment to produce a two-minute short featuring his self-made monkey, singing and dancing to 'Peanut Vendor', a 1931 jazz hit for Red Nichols. The two foot high monkey had bolted, moveable joints and some 50 interchangeable mouths to convey the singing. To get the movements right, Lye filmed his new wife, Jane, a prize-winning rumba dancer.

Suddenly strange shadows crawl along the walls, and an old woman appears in the hut. She asks to spend the night, but Glasha says that her parents, when they left for the fair, were severely asked her: do not let strangers into the house. But the old woman persuades Glasha to leave her, and when Glasha goes to bed, the old woman kidnaps little Dunechka and takes her to the forest. The animated film is based on the tales of Aleksey Nikolaevich Tolstoy "Kikimora" and "Vas'ka the Cat" (both written in 1910).
