Overview

It's 1965 and rock music is shaking up the world but not in Auckland, New Zealand. One man's determination will challenge, inspire and lead a bunch of rebel deejay's into an un-chartered political nightmare. A boat called the Tiri will be their freedom, broadcasting from international waters to avoid prosecution. Based on a true story, a bold bid to free the airwaves and bring rock n' roll to the people.

Situated in the unlikely blink-and-you-missed-it town of Fruitland and far removed from the late 1970s punk movement and the larger disco boom, Donnie and Joe tilled their own musical soil, channeling bedroom pop jams, raw funk, and yacht rock.

Rockpile recorded their installment of the German TV show Rockpalast in January 1980, a few months before the appearance of their lone LP, Seconds of Pleasure, but at that point, the quartet were a fixture on the new wave scene, touring constantly and appearing on solo LPs by their co-leaders Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe. All this is a roundabout way of saying that Rockpile wasn't hurting for material: they drew heavily upon Edmunds' solo records in particular -- 13 of the songs on this 17-song setlist appeared on one of Dave's LPs -- interspersing a few rock & roll oldies along with songs from Nick, plus a showcase for Billy Bremner
