Overview

In 1244, Jelaluddin Rumi, a Sufi scholar in Konya, Turkey, met an itinerant dervish, Shams of Tabriz. A powerful friendship ensued. After Rumi's death, his son founded the Mevlevi Sufi order, the whirling dervishes.
