Frank Perry's wife Helen is away visiting her mother, and he uses this "free time" for a night of drinking at a nightclub. Unfortunately, when he tries to return home, he enters the wrong house and is nearly arrested When Helen comes back he tells her that the "incident" was actually an initiation rite of the Masons, knowing that his wife has always wanted him to join the group. She excitedly tells her father about Frank's becoming a Mason, since her father is also a Mason. What neither she nor Frank know is that her father has actually been doing the same thing Frank is--pretending to be a Mason when he actually isn't. Complications ensue.

Anxious to be a detective Billy buys a “how to” book and thinks he’s stumbled on a case when he finds the diary belonging to Dora Burns. Seeing an entry about buying a revolver and a hatchet for killing Edward, Billy shadows Dora to her home. She discovers him and forcibly convinces him that he should skidoo. Billy runs to get the police, but when they arrive, finding blood spots on her apron Dora takes the police to the kitchen and shows them a bleeding rooster. Billy's career as a detective ends at once.

Bud and Tom try to stake her to each other, for they are both victims of flirting Marian. Tom finally gets Bud to propose to Betsey, misleading him with a phantom legacy. Bud learns the truth of the heiress' real financial position and then leaves her at the altar.

He jealously follows them to the depot and then to his house. Once there he ties them up and waits for his wife’s return. Just when everything looks to take a murderous turn in walks their maid, Belinda. Belinda admits it was she who sent pictures of her mistress fearing she herself was too plain to catch a man’s attention. Mr. & Mrs. Jones see the ludicrous side and all is forgiven.
