Overview

Now, the complete truth can be told...Devo, the seminal New Wave audio-visual concept band made a career out of setting to music video their Dada-gone-camp theory of de-evolution and its riotous rebuke of corporate culture. Punk/New Wave mad scientists Devo were among the few bands to understand the music video's potential as art form during its infancy in the eighties. Their brilliant and bizarre videos were compiled on VHS and then on laser disc; that long out-of-print disc, The Complete Truth About De-Evolution, has finally arrived on DVD, which should please longtime fans of this eclectic outfit.

This incredible archive represents a great set of previously unreleased recordings in the Kinks catalog. The collection has been brought together by trawling the BBC archives, but also by inviting contributions from fans. Included also is a DVD of the bands sought after appearances on Top of the Pops and the Old Grey Whistle Test a well as concerts from throughout the band's career. This is a first for the band as these recordings have never been available in one place before. Covering a 35-year period between 1985 and 2020, ‘SMASH – The Singles’ works chronologically through the duo’s classic output, opening with their debut hit West End Girls and journeying through 2020’s Monkey Business. Select physical editions of ‘SMASH’ collect the duo’s videos on Blu-Ray for the first time, with a second disc containing bonus clips and lyric videos (including songs not featured on the audio tracklist), with a bumper 66 visuals presented in total. The remastered videos especially are a treat to behold, particularly from an act like Pet Shop Boys, for whom the image has always gone hand-in-hand with the music and serves to enhance the overall experience.

This is a superb collection of live, studio work and videos and a must for anyone who likes rock music. Actually music full stop. Because this is a band of probably the best musicians you will ever hear. So what you get here is simply an amazing collection of excellent music from concerts all over the world as well as some videos from the time. Here you have the cheesy Knocking At Your Back Door and Bad Attitude to smokin live footage of Black Night (84) and Space truckin (85). While the dvd is mainly split evenly between the Blackmore years and Morse years, both are equally outstanding.
