Overview

When Ellen Linden comes back home from finishing school, she finds out that her wealthy father has lost all his money. She must get a job to help support the family, and goes to work as a secretary in the brokerage firm of Phillips and Rand. Both partners find themselves attracted to her, but each has a different approach: Phillipls takes the rough, aggressive route and Rand does the opposite, complimenting and flattering her at every opportunity. However, she falls in love with Tom Galloway, a young inventor who has come up with a new type of soft drink, "Here's How". in which Ellen attempts to interest the brokers. Phillips, however, doesn't take rejection lightly and schemes to break up Ellen and Galloway using his unwitting partner. This film is lost.

When a feud breaks out in the mountains between the Keatons and the Stallards, Boone returns home and with the help of Marshall restores law and order; later, Marshall obtains a commutation of the sentence of Stallard's brother, who has been condemned to death. Boone, now realizing the differences between a rugged, simple mountaineer and an aristocrat, decides not to ask Anne to marry him.

The plan works holding him until it is too late to take part in the debate or vote upon the question and the bill did not pass.

When Lola finally confesses her activities to Frank, Kube kills her and then frames Frank for the murder. Schreiber has important papers to be delivered to Washington and, knowing that he will be searched on board ship, gives them to Ray. Olga beseeches Ray to give the papers up for her sake, but his word to Schreiber is sacred. Nearing America, Ray tells her that he will make an effort to return the papers if she will marry him.
