It’s Christmas Eve and SALLY is feeling ignored by her parents since the recent arrival of her baby brother. When a blizzard carries SALLY to a magical land, she meets three new friends: DRYCLEAN ONLY (a snowman with “snow-for-brains”), CANDY (a candy cane with a less-than-sweet disposition), and ANTLER (a scaredy-cat reindeer). The history of the diaspora is told through conversations with Lidiya Kan’s mother, personal stories, fragmented memories, and her family photo archive. An important character of the film is Morkovcha, the Korean carrot salad, an invention of the Russian Korean diaspora; its essence is symbolic of their mixed identity.

Greedy elder brother Nolbu kicks his good-natured brother Heungbu out of home and takes all the inheritance from their father. Poor but good man Heungbu one day cures a swallow's broken leg and frees it to fly away. Next year, the swallow comes to Heungbu's and gives him a gourd seed. He plants the seed and split it in fall. A huge amount of gold, silver and gems come out of the gourd, and he becomes rich over a night. Nolbu gets green with envy of him.
