Overview

He is already a real star: little polar bear Knut, born on December 5, 2006, is the first polar bear cub at Zoo Berlin for more than 30 years. The little sensation attracts all the attention, because for the first time a camera is looking into the nursery of a hand-reared polar bear. The Berliner Abendschau regularly reports from Knut's nursery and shows his first clumsy steps. After mother polar bear Tosca refused to accept the little white ball, animal keeper Thomas Dörflein took over mother and father duties from day one. Knut and Dörflein have now been living together in a small room at Berlin Zoo for three months.

Generation Impact: The Scientist

Apr 19, 2022

Generation Impact is a new video series from the Garage by HP about cutting-edge young innovators who are using technology to create a more equitable world. The third film in the series, The Scientist, is about Emily Tianshi, a young woman striving to raise awareness and create solutions for the global water crisis. At age 13, Emily transformed her garage into a science lab to research San Diego’s unique Torrey Pine tree and uncovered how the tree’s unique needle structure enable its survival through years of severe drought in California. Using a $20 microscope, Legos and various household items, she developed a prototype to harvest atmospheric moisture, which has the potential to help produce water in areas of severe drought. Tianshi has applied for a patent on the device she created and is also the founder of Clearwater Innovation, an environmental advocacy program that encourages student innovation to solve environmental problems.

They lead typical American lives: they have children, pursue successful middle-class careers, and live in the suburbs. If you did business with any of them over the phone, you would probably have no reason to suspect they are anything but typical. If you were to meet them, however, you'd be surprised to find that they are all dwarfs, with the exception of John Lizzo, the tall, rangy fellow who married Karla.

Bill’s Run

Oct 30, 2004

When documentary filmmaker Richard Kassebaum learned that his younger brother, Bill, a rancher and country lawyer, had decided to run for the Kansas House of Representatives, he left Los Angeles and spent seven weeks on the campaign trail chronicling his brother's first run for public office. Bill's Run: A Political Journey In Rural Kansas captures Bill's journey through the primary, a comical and sometimes painful quest of quixotic proportions, as he takes on the Republican incumbent and fights to preserve a lifestyle quickly disappearing from rural America. A strong supporter was his mother, former U.S. Senator Nancy Landon Kassebaum, who proved both a rose and a thorn to his campaign. The exciting outcome shows, once again, that every vote counts.
