Overview

"Freedom" is an acoustic live performance by singer-songwriter Neil Young that was released on video in 1990 in conjunction with his 1989 studio album of the same name. The video includes performances of seven songs that were filmed in Jones Beach, NY on September 5, 1989, and at the Palladium in New York City on September 6, 1989. Six of the songs are performed solo by Young on vocals, guitar, harmonica, and piano. One song, "Too Far Gone," features long-time Young collaborators Ben Keith and Frank "Poncho" Sampedro on Dobro and Mandolin, respectively. Set List: 1. Crime in the City (6:15), 2. Filmed in April 2010, the film is based on real documents of Russian social and political life and on an analysis of the conflict that has developed around the planned Okhta Center development in Petersburg, where the Gazprom corporation intends to house the headquarters of its locally-based subsidiaries in a 403-meter-high skyscraper. The proposed skyscraper has provoked one of the fiercest confrontations between the authorities and society in recent Russian political history. Despite resistance on the part of various groups who believe that construction of the building would have a catastrophic impact on the appearance of the city, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Gazprom has so far managed to secure all the necessary permissions and has practically begun the first phase of construction.

Guitarist, singer and harmonica player Roky Erickson was one of the pioneers of Psychedelic Rock with his band 13th Floor Elevators in the 1960s. After being diagnosed with a serious case of schizophrenia, Erickson spent years in mental institutions, but continued to make music. As the nineties began - especially among musicians from the alternative rock sector - to form a growing fan base to this day. These include such diverse bands as REM, Okkervil River or Kasabian - a testament to Erickson's great influence on today's rock scene. Since 2008, Erickson is back on stage and brought in 2010 with Okkervil River as a backing band on his album "True Love Cast Out All Evil" out.
