Overview

A gang of jewel thieves rob a house which has just become empty following the recent death of it's rich lady owner. The robbery is not a complete success and one of the gang hides the jewels in the house as he's about to be captured. Later the house is put up for sale and events lead the estate agent to conclude that the jewels may still be there.

The young boy Normand grows up to become the mastermind of a complex criminal network in London. A company called Lloyds Insurance has insured the necklace. The necklace will remain in Istanbul for a while longer before being transported to London by ship. Meanwhile, a theft gang called the Squirrel Gang, whose name appears on the Interpol list, will also be traveling on the ship. However, the Squirrel Gang is not the only organization after the necklace.

There are several attempts made on the life of the coroner. Ruth Whitman is found hiding in a grandfather-clock, holding the gem box. She claims the box was pushed into her hands and she was pushed into the clock. The district attorney's butler/valet tells the coroner he saw who killed his employer and a few minutes later he is also murdered. The mystery deepens.
