Overview

In the sleepy New England town of Loblolly By The Sea, a letter has arrived that is going to wake things up. It is a love letter - ardent, sensual... and unsigned. As the letter falls into different hands, residents of the small town to eye one another with renewed interest - wondering who it's for and who it's from. Determined to find the letter's author, Helen MacFarquhar begins a quest that will open her life to a new chapter involving two decidedly different men: George, an old friend from her past, and Johnny, a young man very much in her present. Unexpectedly, one mysterious love note has the power to unlock some startling secrets, leaving a trail of wonderful surprises as it turns an entire town upside down.

18-year-old school boy Helmut falls in love with fellow pupil Britta. He starts working for a Peace movement to get to know Britta. Britta, however, suddenly moves to San Francisco to live with her father and whilst there, finds a new boyfriend. Helmut studies, literature and politics in his home town and have a relationship with another girl from his former school, now studying medicine at the same university but they break up after having an affair with her roommate. Helmut begins a lot of short affairs with different women but still searches for his first girl.

The seemingly complicated story-line is full of comedy or errors and some of the most hilarious mime scenes of the French cinema.

Katie O'Connor, an actress who has auditioned unsuccessfully for a part in a production featuring Redway, pretends to be the child's mother in order to be near the actor. Complications develop involving Lillian Angel, Redway's fiancée, her admirer Captain Fluffy Faversham, and Katie's father, who suspects the worst of Sir George and his daughter. Eventually, the real mother of the baby returns to collect her child, all is resolved, and romance blossoms between Katie and Sir George.
