Overview

Diane is a growling, howling urban nightmare, suffering from paranoia, nymphomania, and a really bad hair day. Her neighbor, a TV writer, is subject to Diane's constant commentary on sex, violence and invisible persecutors through paper-thin walls. When Diane manages to seduce him, the two jaded New Yorkers discover that love works in mysterious ways.

Add to that an assortment of silly visitors like Kitty Kat Man, Captain Schnorer the Worldwide Explorer and various talking animals who all break into wonderful musical numbers while educating the kids.

To call the atmosphere uncomfortable is an understatement, and things only get worse when Sara announces she's pregnant, which is quite troubling for Jan since he's been waiting for the right time to tell her he had a vasectomy several months before.

By the rules of the research institute, Folke has to sit on an umpire's chair in Isak's kitchen and observe him from there, but never talk to him. Isak stops using his kitchen and observes Folke through a hole in the ceiling instead. However, the two lonely men slowly overcome the initial post-war Norwegian-Swede distrust and become friends.
