In this episodic animated fantasy from France, an art teacher interprets a series of six fairy tales (each involving a prince or princess) with the help of two precocious students. A long time ago in a distant fairy tale countryside, a young girl leads her little brother into a dark wood in desperate search of food and work, only to stumble upon a nexus of terrifying evil.
A lumberjack in search of wood ventures deep into the forest until he discovers an abandoned community of lumberjacks. Inside one of the houses, he sees a meal set for one person. Not seeing anyone around, he decides to take advantage of the meal. Later, a young woman arrives at the home.

Events come thick and fast when, almost simultaneously and independently of each other, art carver Johannes and asylum seeker Theophile turn up in the sleepy village and turn the local order upside down with their unflinching attitude.
