Anything but tall stories.

Overview

The film explores Bogut's storied career, from his time growing up in Melbourne, his rise through the University of Utah, and the ups and downs of an NBA career that featured everything from a championship to career-defining injuries. It all culminates in the next phase of Bogut's basketball journey, which will be his first stint on the sidelines, as an assistant coach with the Sydney Kings. What's unique, though, is that it's a documentary driven by Longley. Bogut visits Longley's large but minimalist, reception-less sanctuary in Denmark, Western Australia -- about a five-hour drive south of Perth -- giving the audience the opportunity to see two of the country's most successful sporting exports in as stripped back an environment that exists in Australia.

Fast Break

Sep 1, 1978

Evoking a cinema verite feel not found in most sports documentaries, Fast Break examines the 1977 Portland Trailblazers basketball team in a surprisingly personal and compelling fashion. Inter-cutting excerpts from the 1977 playoff / championship season, the film steps outside of the basketball court, and into the everyday lives of the Trailblazers, as well as their coach Jack Ramsey. Whether it’s biking the Oregon coast with star center Bill Walton, hosting a kids basketball camp with Dave Twardzik, or joking with Maurice Lucas at the pool – Fast Break lets the players speak for themselves: about basketball, life and playing in Portland. Fast Break, a film documentary about Bill Walton and the Portland Trail Blazers winning the 1976-77 NBA title and the aftermath of their accomplishment, is the greatest movie I have ever seen on the subject of professional team sports, basketball as a metaphor for life, and the perfect practice of Zen Buddhism in American society.

Swoopes

Jul 30, 2013

Sheryl Swoopes famously has been labeled as the female Michael Jordan, but that's only part of the story. On the court, she was nearly as dominant as Jordan, winning a national championship with Texas Tech, three Olympic gold medals, three MVP awards and four consecutive championships with the Houston Comets of the WNBA, the league she helped start. She even had a Nike shoe named after her, the Air Swoopes. Off the court, she has had a life full of transitions. She gave birth to her son, Jordan, during the inaugural season of the WNBA. Later, she divorced her high school sweetheart and became the highest-profile athlete in her sport to acknowledge she was gay. She has struggled with love, money and personal identity, but has never lost her spirit. In this portrait, you will meet someone who is not your everyday superstar, but a woman who has defied a multitude of labels.
