Overview

To leave or to stay? Anaïs, a 17-year-old deeply connected to her native region of Gers in southwestern France and her friend group, is faced with this dilemma. With her high school diploma in hand, she must leave behind her family and rural life. Whenever a mother asks, there is an obligation to look for an answer, whatever it takes… Spurred by the economic crisis, with no job, with no projects in sight and unable to afford the due payments on my mortgage, I leave my house in the city and go back to the village where I was born, to my octogenarian parents’ home. This World investigates the potential links between "death metal" and a series of gruesome crimes around the world. In Italy a group of young death metal fans formed a satanic cult called the Beasts of Satan. At least four gruesome killings resulted. But death metal musicians deny that they have any responsibility for the actions of people who profess to be their fans. With exclusive access to the families, one of the killers and graphic police footage, the film tells the inside story for the first time. We hear from the musicians, the children and the parents from Oslo to California and ask just how far can music go in its ability to shock, and just how damaging might it be?
