Overview

Hugh Harman's brilliant 1939 Oscar-Nominated parable Peace On Earth, highlights MGM/UA Home Video's animated shorts Christmas Package. Also included is Hugh Harman-Rudolph Ising's Alias St. Nick, a comedic tale about a young cynical mouse who believes there "ain't no Santa Claus." The Pups' Christmas follows two adorable puppies as they tangle with cornucopia of gifts, some of which turn out to be quite menacing! The Peachy Cobbler is a heartwarming retelling of the sweet Shoemaker and the Elves, directed by Tex Avery. A sickly old shoemaker feeds his last piece of bread to some birds who then decide to do him a favor and fix all the shoes in his shop!

Two rival robotics companies in the future release their latest creations at a robotics convention, claiming each to be the latest and greatest in technological advances. Mega Stellar Company's release is a robot boy named Romie-O, while Super Solar Cybernetics has released a girl robot named Julie-8. Unforeseen to each of the company's creators, is how each of the advanced robots soon falls in love with the other.

The Spirit of Christmas

This Christmas film, created as a special for television broadcast throughout the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania viewing region, was produced by puppeteer Mabel Beaton and her husband Les for Bell Telephone Company and first aired in 1953. Following a short live-action opening portion, featured are two extended marionette segments, the first dramatizing Clement Moore's "A Visit from St. Nicholas", the second reverently telling the Nativity story; the two stories are staged in classic, traditional style. From 1953 onward, for several years, The Spirit of Christmas was broadcast in the intended region multiple times per holiday season. It was also available as a 16mm film licensed to schools for showings to students. This film often is misstated to have originally been broadcast in 1950.
