Overview

A fever dream of the faces of love. Six circles of love. A kind of death and rebirth experienced within each circle. Each song in the short film evokes a realm of what love can feel like to a human being, the metamorphosis through the experience of Love. Faced with the person that was at every metamorphosis, there is a certain death, and certain transformation. We watch her move without words towards salvation.

Diane the Zebra Woman follows four women’s misadventures through the streets of New York City in 1962. All played by Flame Schon, the characters consist of The Detective, The Mother, The Child, and the Medium. Evocative of the scene from which it emerged, the film features cameos from integral figures like William Levy, Jonas Mekas, Paul Morrissey and features an original score composed by Malcolm Goldstein.

The mention of a purple scarf in the notes particularly catches her attention, prompting her to purchase a similar scarf from a mysterious website that claims to sell everything, as long as one can pay the price. Soon after, Xiaomai's close friend is found dead, strangled by a purple scarf. All of this awakens Xiaomai's memories of her childhood sweetheart Qiushou, whose mother was also strangled to death with a purple scarf by an unknown killer. Xiaomai and Qiushou grew up together and fell in love, but he suddenly disappeared from her life 15 years ago without a word. She begins to believe that Qiushou has returned and may be seeking revenge.

At a dark pier in the middle of the night, a boat captain and his mate, Nong, are readying their vessel for the next trip. Once the ship sets sail, the body hidden in the engine room disappears. Mia’s spirit is set loose and wreaking havoc on the boat in the middle of the sea. The ghost terrorizes the sailors, who can’t escape anywhere except into the water that surrounds them. Things get worse when a storm hits. The only way to save the boat and everyone on it is to locate Mia’s body. But there’s more serious question that no one remembers to ask: Who murdered Mia?

Her left and right eyes are different colors.
