Overview

This film explores the complex legacies of twenty years of violence and war in Peru through practices of remembering. In three audio-visual pieces made in collaboration with relatives of the disappeared, insurgents of the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA) and members of the Armed Forces, this documentary aims for creating an on-screen dialogue between memories, which in practice remains elusive

“The Color of the Sky” is a testimony from those who, from their position as left-wing militants, full of dedication and faith, struggled to change Peruvian society, to conquer its sky. Set during the political events of the late 1970s and early 1980s, Unity, Political Violence, and Democracy are the main themes addressed by our protagonists.

The Shining Trench of Chairman Gonzalo

A recreation of one day at the Canto Grande prison in Peru, following women guerrillas from the Maoist Shining Path movement in their morning marches to their bedtime chants. Kept isolated in their own cellblocks, the guerrillas refused to acknowledge that were imprisoned. Their cellblocks were another front in the People's War-- "shining trenches of combat". This film shows the intense indoctrination and belief system of the brutal Latin American insurgency.
